Knox County officials are adjusting to juvenile cases without a former Vincennes youth holding center. The Southwest Indiana Regional Youth Village closed in the spring of 2023, forcing County officials to find different places to house their juvenile offenders.
Knox County Sheriff Doug Vantlin says the courts mandate their trip to a juvenile detention center– sometimes many hours away. Sheriff Vantlin also knows that means a bump in the number of transport deputies.
The closure also meant another costly program in the County’s budget. However, even with that, the Knox County Council was able to squeeze the program into the budget for 2025.
