Born in Phoenix Arizona on January 15th , 1957, Eleda Mattison entered this world to Dale Roger Dickman and Esther Pearl (Stone) Dickman. Eleda, known as Ede to those that had the pleasure of knowing her, left this world peacefully January 1st , 2025, surrounded by all of her girls.
Ede was the second oldest of a busy family of seven. Ede had a beautiful welcoming party to the afterlife with both her parents, and four of her siblings who preceeded her; Darrell, Richard, Rodney and Roger. Siblings Ava and Tom remain on this Earth, living on in their memory.
Ede lived a simple life in Arizona, working odd jobs to care for those whom she loved the most. At the age of 34, Ede met and eloped with her love of 30 years in Las Vegas, and moved her three children and herself to Vincennes Indiana, where she had two more children, and raised her family of five into adulthood.
Ede created beautiful floral arrangements as she assisted in Mattison-Riddle Greenhouse and was also a loyal worker of Progress Cleaners for many years. Additionally, Ede was the devoted nursery attendant of First United Methodist Church, where she developed some lifelong friends in Christ. Later in life, she enjoyed working part time at Dogwood Barbeque, where she found many connections with her coworkers and regular customers.
Ede was happiest when surrounded by family. Ede gave the gift of life to 5 children, Jason Dickman, Ada McGill, Jessica Eddleman, Charlotte Kaiser, and Raychel Mattison, whom she loved deeply, and was fiercely protective and unconditionally supportive of. Ede was also a proud Grandma to her many grand-kids; Cody, Kayden, Kamron, Emma, Lennon, Bryian, Silas, Liana, Isobel, and Tucker. Ede also had an undeniable love for her step children, and tolerated her many grand fur-babies, who all adored her as much as her actual grandchildren.
Upon visiting, Ede’s house always smelled like coffee, and one was sure to eat some of her delicious meals, such as tuna noodle casserole, meatloaf, or lasagna, which were fan favorites. One could also expect to be showered with simple gifts that she had come upon during a shopping trip to the dollar store the day before.
Ede was a very simple woman, never receiving a traditional education, but she knew the value in spending an afternoon playing Hearts or Solitaire with a Pepsi or a coffee in hand with a good friend. Ede found solace in a pretty garden, with windchimes and bird feeders. Ede enjoyed celebrating holidays with her family, and cherished sharing a meal with loved ones. Watching her grand-babies enjoy a sunny afternoon in the town park was one of her favorite activities, and she never turned down a trip to the zoo or the local swimming hole. Friends and family will remember Ede for her compassionate soul, willingness to help anyone in need, and love for her family, shown by her big genuine smile.
The family thanks Bridgepointe Health Campus for loving their mother like their own, and for the various healthcare professionals that have cared for Ede over the last few years. Family invites you to First United Methodist Church to reminisce and honor Ede’s memory Saturday, January 18th at 3:00pm.
