Illinois Governor J-B Pritzker has responded to a move by Indiana House Speaker Todd Huston to move some Illinois counties into Indiana. Pritzker dismissed a proposal from Indiana lawmakers as “a stunt” that “isn’t going to happen.”
The bill, introduced by Indiana House Speaker Todd Huston, would create a commission to explore whether Illinois counties could secede and join Indiana. House Republicans unveiled the measure, known as House Bill 1008, as a legislative priority on Tuesday. According to Huston, the bill was spurred by 33 Illinois counties who have considered secession from Illinois since 2020.
