The Knox County Council heard an update on the space study from R-Q-A-W designer Lara Dawson. Dawson told Council she e hopes for work to begin on tearing down the old Poor Farm building, and building the Emergency Operations Center, early next year.
That is part of Phase One of the process. The other two phases include building a new Justice Center, and renovating the County Couthouse. Council president Rich Chattin feels the entire project will be a fix that will last for decades. Chattin also hopes the Justice Center construction in Phase Two will aid the County’s Justice Center efficiency.
The Knox County Commissioners recently approved the design. Council officials are looking at the project from a financial viewpoint.
